Games For in The Pool
A Day At The Pool: The Best Games For in The Water
On a hot day, nothing beats spending the day at the pool. Swimming, splashing, and laying in the sun are enough sometimes to fill the day, but sometimes, you and your friends would like to think of something else to do in the water. On those days, you might want to try one of these fun games.
Cannonball
This is probably a game you already play even if you never gave it a name. Cannonball is all about who can make the biggest splash. Players take turns jumping into the pool and trying to create the greatest amount of splash and waves possible. There are two important considerations that must be thought out before beginning this game. First, you must make sure the water is deep enough where you will be jumping to avoid injury. Second, this is not a good game to play in a crowded pool where others could be annoyed or even hurt.
Shoulder Wars
Shoulder wars is an excellent game for mixed groups with adults and children. It is played in groups of two, with the smaller, lighter partner sitting on top of the shoulders of the other partner. The goal of the game is for each top player to knock the other top players off their partners’ shoulders without using hands or feet. Be sure that you are playing in deep enough water to avoid getting hurt on the bottom of the pool, and that you are not playing near the edges of the pool where players can hit their heads.
Treasure Hunt
This is a great game for a party. Before the game starts, toss toys, or “treasure,” on the bottom of the pool. It is wise to use toys that were made for this game because you will know that they will not float, and they will be designed not to hurt or scrape bare feet. You can also use large coins. The fun begins as swimmers begin diving to collect the treasure from the bottom of the pool. The player that collects the most treasure wins. Depending on the size of the pool and the number of players, you can have the divers take turns or all dive at once.
Relay Races
Relay races can prove fun and positively hysterical as players attempt to move quickly in the water without swimming. You can create your own relay races, such as balancing a toy on your head or carrying a spoonful of water, clamped between your teeth. The key is to have fun, laugh a lot, and stay safe.
